The MDM-DRUK printing house has developed a technology that is unique on a world scale and which protects prints against forgery.

Technology HQSM

The name "HQSM" comes from the first letters of the English word High Quality Safe Microprint and means "HQSM"

High Quality Safe Microprint

However, this is simply not how the fine print found on the banknotes might seem. The technology we have developed allows us to go a step further, even deeper into the very technique of image reproduction. We can encode a single element, the "atom" of the image, which is simply a raster point. Microprinting in its assumptions consists of more or less raster points, so in standard technologies it is possible to forge it. In our solution, the information carrier is not the printout itself, but the technique of its execution.

Counterfeiting is one of the fastest growing economic crimes in the world. It threatens both developed and developing economies, harms new investments and increasingly threatens public health and safety.

Technological progress means that counterfeiters have become more sophisticated. Today a huge range of products are being faked, from clothing and pharmaceuticals, food, to automotive and agrochemical parts. Counterfeiting includes goods aimed at imitating products or services provided by well-known brands or manufacturers. Criminals seek to deceive consumers that the product they are buying is original when in fact it is a fake of inferior quality or a product that has not been approved for sale by the brand owner.  This definition covers products resembling articles which are intended to mislead the consumer by using brand names and packaging that look very similar to the original products.

In today's goods and product market, the brand plays a very important role. Manufacturers spend a lot of money and make a lot of effort to make their products recognizable. Well-promoted and at the same time tested and known for its good quality, the brand is always a tasty bite for all kinds of counterfeiters, who impersonate a recognized manufacturer and offer other goods, often much cheaper and qualitatively inferior. According to the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), counterfeits account for 10% of global trade and grow at a rate of 15.6% per year. The value of the counterfeit market is estimated at USD 1.8 trillion. In order to protect the interests of both their own and potential buyers, manufacturers try to apply various types of security measures to uncover fraud, as in the era of development of printing technologies, fake packaging can be difficult for consumers to distinguish from the original.

The fact that the problem of such illegal imitation is not so small is shown by statistics.

A study by the European Brand Association, carried out in 21 countries, showed that nearly one third of companies have dealt with products similar to the original ones. Half of them have taken action to prevent such behaviour.

The fact that such a struggle is needed is also proven by research. According to marketing information, almost half of consumers had a very serious intention of buying a "fake" product. Most often they did not realize that they were using imitations.

It is estimated that about 50% of medicines offered on the Internet are fake. According to WHO, every hundredth drug on the Polish market is forgeries, and Poles spend 100 million zlotys per year on counterfeits. On a global scale, the value of the black market of false medicines reaches 200 billion US dollars. Interpol indicates that about one million people die every year due to taking counterfeit medicines.

Parallel trade is driven by different prices in different geographic markets. The original product is moved from one market to another without the consent of the brand owner and often undercuts its distribution network. Sometimes this is done in order to avoid paying higher taxes. The internet has created a global marketplace and has made it difficult for brand owners to control where their goods are sold. Many people who do not want a fake product will buy the original item at a discount.

Thanks to HQSM technology, every manufacturer will be able to trace the distribution of his goods, because he will know when and where they were produced.

Companies all over the world are making increasing efforts to reduce their negative impact on the environment. The use of certified paper sources, less toxic inks and energy-efficient machines are the foundations of ecology in the printing industry. Unfortunately, eco-friendly process does not mean that it is cheaper. Nevertheless, it is becoming increasingly important for companies.

Many chemical compounds are used in the printing process. The basic ones include ink, and all the components needed for its correct application on a sheet. These are mainly water, alcohol and a buffer - a solution which pH hardly changes after the addition of small amounts of strong acids or bases, or after dilution with water. It is a mixture of weak acid and salt of this acid with strong base, or a mixture of weak base and salt of this base with strong acid.

The amount of paint applyed determines the use of the remaining chemical components. Thanks to the use of HQSM technology we have managed to reduce paint consumption on average by as much as 16%! This gives great benefits for the environment and reduced water consumption allows for a more conscious management of this valuable raw material, which in our country is starting to be missing due to climate change.

In the printing process, the amount of paper or, in the case of packaging cardboard required to complete the order is also very important. Each process, such as for example: printing, die-cutting, film application, varnishing or gluing, requires the use of a certain amount of sheets, only for the so-called machine adjuston. This serves the purpose of setting up the machine so that the further process is correct. One of the most sensitive processes is the printing process. Obtaining the correct colour print requires a number of actions and calibrations. The cost of the device is one of the highest  cost parts of the print job, in addition to the price of making the printing form and the cost of printing a single copy. Thanks to the use of HQSM technology we are able to significantly reduce the amount of waste paper, because the raster used and its characteristics are more precise in reproducing details and colours.

The high quality of our products is also our most important goal. We believe that our Dear Customers are entitled to full satisfaction with the results of our work. That is why we always strive for printing perfection. The biggest challenge for us is our obsession with perfection. This is what made us consistently build the Laboratory of Excellent Printing. One of its achievements is HQSM technology. Thanks to the appropriate development of graphic files in our graphic studio, as well as subsequent digital processes, up to the production of printing forms, we have achieved an incredible print quality, compared to other technologies commonly used nowadays. Our products are much more detailed and the colours are more saturated. Below is a list of the same prints before and after using HQSM technology.

In addition, HQSM technology offers our customers an effective method of marking, identification and authentication of products. By using a special raster system, we are able to encode information in the product graphics.  At the customer's request, we can prepare the graphics of his packaging so that it is possible to encode it, as well as insert a special field that will contain the code.

This field is impossible to copy.  Forgery of raster structure is unfeasible and the only way for counterfeit is for the forger to have access to complete raster technology. In any other case, the reproduced image has a raster structure with which it was reproduced and which is different from the one used.

The field may look like this for the user, but it may also be hidden in the colourful graphics.

About us

MDM - Druk is a company that achieves perfect results thanks to its passionate focus on customer expectations. That is why our company is developing dynamically. We started modestly on September 3, 1996 with a tiny plant, which was located in a small room of 20 m2 in Przeźmierowo. Today we have 110 times more space at our disposal. However, we remember that first moment when, with great hope and iron consequence, three partners (Maciej Sierpiński, Dariusz Kowalczyk and Mariusz Kowalczyk) decided to establish a printing house. We succeeded. For us -  the printers of blood and bones - from the beginning, the most important thing was concrete. Since we already had a room, we had to get devices. The first machines with which we started an adventure of our own printing company were: Romajor 313, Romajor 314 and the KRAUZE manual cutter.

HQSM is an advanced and unique technology that allows you to check the originality of your product. You need an Android or iOS phone and the included macro lens to operate it. Please take a few steps to prepare your system for scanning.

1. Download and install the HQSM application. You can find it in the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android).

2.  Find and open the downloaded app using the icon. When you start it, the system will ask for access to location services and cameras. The "App only when using the app" function should be active.

3. When you open the app, you must log in or create an account.

4. For system and data security, your account must be approved in our internal service. After the verification and approval of the account (of which you will be informed by e-mail, sent to the address given during registration), you will be able to log into the system. The verification and approval can take up to 16 working hours.

5. Click the "Scan" button and point the camera at the EAN barcode. The system will automatically find it and download its value.

6. The system will display data about the identified product. To find out where the coded field is located, click on the button "Bring the lens closer to the location marked as a light" at the bottom of the screen.

7. The location of the hidden coded field will be displayed on the screen.  You can now attach the macro lens that came with the kit.

8. Move the lens closer to the coded area indicated in the manual. Zoom in and focus. The entire coded area should be in the lens. When you zoom in, you will see the coded objects. All of them must be on the screen. When you are ready, press "scan". You can follow the validation process, for example in the History tab. The process itself can take from a few dozen seconds to a few minutes.

And that's it! It is so simple!
